The Ultimate Quilt Binding Tutorial

The trick to the end where you are sewing the binding on (if you are going to hand stitch you sew the binding on the front--hand stitch the back; if you are going to machine bind, you stitch the binding on the back and machine stitch the front) - you take the long tail of unstitched binding and measure the width of your binding which for me is 2 1/2" which is my preferred width, and you cut at 2 1/2".  You then open the two ends and sew diagonally (top left to bottom right).  Lay flat and double check to see that the binding is laying flat.  If it's done correctly, you are ready to sew the binding on.

Note:  Towards the end of this video, Jenny gives a good instruction on how to thread the needle using a needle threader.

My Very Scrappy Quilt Top

As I neared the end of joining all the sections of this scrappy quilt together, it occurred to me that my quilt style is definitely "unstructured".  I mostly do my own designs because I like doing my own thing, even if it includes bending the rules.

Borders of a variety of colors will finish off the top.
